Introduction: The School of Interpreting and Translation Studies at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies was established in May 2005. It is located on the University's North Campus, surrounded by the beautiful White Cloud Mountains that are renowned as the cradle of individuals of great merit. Our mission is to advance the social, economic, cultural, and educational development of Guangdong Province. Our resources, for interpreting, translation, teaching and research, are integrated. The School has highly qualified staff with extensive experience in both the theory and practice of interpreting and translation. Our goal is to produce highly skilled, professional translators and interpreters who will be in demand locally and abroad. The School consists of the Department of Interpreting, the Department of Translation Studies, the Research Centre for Interpreting and Translation Studies, the Training Centre for Advanced Interpreters and Translators, and the National Resources Centre for Translation Studies.
Responsibilities and Requirements:
The School follows the tenets of the University's motto – "moral integrity, outstanding performance, and cross-cultural learning". It cultivates four categories of talented individuals in accordance with national socio-economic needs and guidelines. The four categories of talented individuals are: PhD students in Translation Studies; MA students in Translation Studies (specifically in the areas of Conference Interpreting, Interpreting Studies, Translation Theory, Commercial Translation Studies, Legal Translation Studies, Media Translation Studies and Literature Translation Studies); BA students in Translation (particularly in translation practice); advanced professional interpreters and translators in non-degree programmes.
The ideal appointee will have:
A master's or doctoral degree in translation studies, or conference interpreting, or English from a leading university
Some years' relevant university teaching experience
Relevant work experience
Research achievements consistent with the level of appointment
Proficiency in Chinese
Ability to edit in English

Salary scales in RMB per month:
YUNSHAN Scholars/Distinguished/Eminent Professor 18,000 – 30,000
Professor 10,000 – 20,000
Associate Professor 10,000 – 14,000
Senior Lecturer 8,000 – 12,000
Lecturer 5,000 – 8,000.
1) Salary: In order to attract more experienced and highly professional foreign experts to teach on GDUFS campus, the University made some new policies to substantially increase the available salary for these experts. Therefore, the University is now able to provide up-to RMB20, 000 of monthly salary to world-wide famous Professors that can be active participants in teaching and research in their specific field.
2) International Travel Subsidy: Besides a monthly salary, the University shall pay each foreign teacher a certain amount of international travel subsidy to basically cover a round trip (for 1-year contract) or a single trip (for a half-year contract) from abroad to Guangzhou. This subsidy will be divided into several parts based on the length of each teacher's contract and paid monthly by the University together with the teacher's monthly salary as a whole.
