Contributions are invited for a special issue of ITT dedicated to the changes occurring in the translation profession due to the spread of English as a language of international communication, and more specifically to subsequent implications for the education of translators and interpreters.

The book presents the hermeneutical theory of translation focusing on the translator as a person. Translation is a dynamic task to be performed on the basis of a deep understanding of the original and an adequate strategy for authentic reformulation in another language.

Proposals for papers would be most welcome for volume 9 (2012) of ESP Across Cultures. The deadline for submitting an abstract of 250-300 words is 15 July 2011, with delivery of the completed paper by 31 December 2011.

Its English Department invites applications for a full-time position in English/Japanese interpreting/translation (Non-Japanese citizens will be tenure-track for two years).

Open letter from Ricardo Muñoz Martin, President of AIETI (The Iberian Associaton for the Study of Translation and Interpretation), addressed to the Head of the Standing Committee for the Humanities, European Science Foundation. It features an extensive analysis of the position of Translation Studies within the ESF and calls for a complete reassessment of its approach to evaluating journals in the discipline. It should interest all TS scholars, within and beyond Europe, especially since it makes specific mention of journals such as TTR and Meta in Canada and Cadernos de Tradução in Brazil. It deserves widespread exposure and support. Please circulate widely.

Multidisciplinarity is without any doubt a reality, although not always acknowledged. It has increasingly come to the fore in the last five or six years in Translation Studies, whereas it has not yet been developed within the specific field of Audiovisual Translation Studies. However, as emerges from some recent publications in the field (Remael and Neves 2007, Di Giovanni, 2008), new approaches to the description and analysis of audiovisual translation processes and products call for a socio-cultural turn in Audiovisual Translation Studies.
