Applications are invited for this post in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies (CLAS). CLAS is a leading centre for the study of European, Asian and American languages, cultures, film and media with campuses in Nottingham, China and Malaysia.
The primary purpose of the role will be to contribute to team-taught content modules in translation at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These will include translation theory and practical translation (French-English), and may also include interpreting, translation technology, audio-visual translation, or French language, depending on the expertise of the role-holder. The role holder will also be expected to offer one specialist module in any of the following fields of French or Francophone Studies: film and visual cultures, linguistics, or contemporary Francophone society, culture and politics.
The role holder will be expected to carry out administrative duties as required by the Head of the Translation/Interpreting Section. These are likely to include acting as convenor on one or more team-taught modules and acting as personal tutor to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students.
Applicants must have a PhD (or be near completion) or equivalent in Translation Studies or similar by start date of post or have the equivalent in professional qualification and experience. They should also possess an advanced level of expertise in spoken and written French (native or near-native level of fluency), and the ability to teach translation theory at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Applicants should also have the ability to teach in the areas outlined above.
The post is available on a full-time, fixed-term basis from 15 January 2018 until 14 January 2019.
